Burning a Web Site CD

The second part of this page works this way. Using either Roxio or Nero cd burner program, one or more workshop and/or web site template files may be selected for your use.

  • Common utilities for writing ISO file to recordable media such as CD-R include Nero, and Roxio. The contents of image files can be used as virtual discs using utilities such as ISObuster, Daemon Tools or Virtual CloneDrive for Windows Vista

    • First you will select the program that you want to download.
Download the selected web site cd  image file by clicking on the "download" under the image.
    • You will download the file and 'Save' it to a place on your hard disk. NOT to a CD disk drive. The file being furnished is an image file. The image file [*.iso] is a compressed file which cannot be opened and used except as follows:

    What is an ISO Image?

The various web site CD  images are posted as ISO image file. An ISO image Is file is an exact representation of a CD including the content and the logical format. ISO files end with an .ISO extension.

    • Once the file is finished downloading onto your hard disk, then you open up the Roxio or Nero program. The burner program on Roxio is called Creator Classic.
    • Then move the file which was downloaded to the file-to-burn location of Nero or Roxio, The Roxio file-to-burn program is called Creator Classic.
    • Put a blank cd in the cd drive. Do NOT use the normal 'Burn' button.
    • On the left side of the Creator Classic program or in the Nero Program look for a buttom marked "Burn image file to disk."

Starting this operation and the image file will place all of the original files on your blank cd. One of the files on the new cd has a file for the label on the disk using Roxio label maker. Another one of the files on the disk is "readmefirst.pdf" which when opened will explain how to proceed with modifying copies of the files on your computer, copied from the cd disk.

    Installing Your Web site

    • After following the CD burning process above, you are ready to copy the web site files on your computer so they can be modified for your site.
    • Now simply insert the CD created above into the computer to which you plan to install and copy the files. Modify the files to suit your web site using the "readmefirst.pdf" file instructions as a guide. A copy of HTML Help Workshop folder on the CD has a small editor which can be used to modify the web site files and view it immediately in a browser to see what you have changed.
    • When the web site has been completely modified, you need to find a Internet Host to register your domain name and they will furnish information to FTP {File Transper Protocol] the files onto the Internet server. A copy of of the Firefox web browser version 3 is available in the Firefox folder on the CD. This Mozilla browser has an add on program called FTP Firefox which when downloaded and installed on the Firefox browser, will allow you to connect with the host server and put your web files on the Internet.
